Shandong Comler Power | Diesel Generator Sets Supplier for Guinea Conakry Port Expansion Project - Belt and Road Infrastructure Power Solution

October 10/2025

In October 2025, our company formally entered into a cooperation agreement with CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. (Second Engineering Company) to supply 5 customized diesel generator sets (with power outputs of 200kW, 300kW, and 500kW respectively) for the Phase II Container Terminal Expansion Project of Conakry Port in Guinea. This collaboration not only demonstrates the adaptability of our products to extreme operating conditions but also deepens the friendly relations between China and Guinea through infrastructure cooperation under the "Belt and Road Initiative".

Project Overview: Upgrading a Strategic Hub

Located on Tombo Island along Guinea's southwestern coast, Conakry Port is the country's largest seaport and a key gateway for trade in West Africa. It handles 90% of Guinea's imports and 98% of its mineral exports, with bauxite production ranking first in Africa and second globally. The Phase II expansion project, undertaken by CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering, aims to upgrade the port into a regional comprehensive hub serving landlocked West African countries. It is expected to significantly enhance throughput capacity and operational efficiency, injecting impetus into economic growth in the local area and the sub-region.
As the core power guarantee for the project, Comler's diesel generator sets are tasked with supporting critical operational scenarios, including container crane systems, terminal lighting, cargo handling equipment, and emergency backup power for the port's control center. This ensures the continuous progress of project construction and subsequent operations despite Guinea's unstable power grid.

Customized Power Solutions Adapted to Guinea's Harsh Environment

Guinea has a tropical monsoon climate, which poses severe challenges to mechanical equipment. The Conakry region has an average annual temperature of up to 34°C, extremely high humidity, annual rainfall exceeding 3,000mm, and abrasive dust carried by harmattan winds during the dry season. Targeting these environmental characteristics, our company has made targeted design optimizations to the generator sets:
  • Extreme Climate Resistance: Equipped with an enhanced heat dissipation system, and metal components coated with anti-corrosion materials, the units maintain stable power output even at an ambient temperature of 40°C. The enclosed soundproof canopy meets the IP54 protection rating, effectively isolating heavy rain and salt-laden coastal air, and avoiding humidity-related failures commonly seen in standard equipment.
  • Tiered Power Matching: The 500kW units are designed for heavy-duty operations, with a 10% overload capacity to power gantry cranes and bulk cargo handling systems. The 300kW units support the continuous operation of the terminal's logistics network, while the 200kW units serve as backup power for control rooms and lighting systems. Together, they form a complementary power matrix adapted to the port's multi-scenario needs.
  • Compliance and Energy Efficiency: All units comply with China's GB/T 2820-2009 standards and meet Guinea's import requirements under the framework of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). Equipped with advanced fuel injection systems, they achieve a fuel consumption rate of ≤200g/kWh under rated load, reducing operational costs while adhering to GB 17691-2005 emission standards to minimize environmental impact.

Responding to Guinea's Surging Demand for Reliable Power

Guinea's power sector faces significant challenges: per capita electricity consumption is only 60% of the average in sub-Saharan Africa, over 70% of the population relies on traditional energy sources, and frequent power outages severely hinder industrial and infrastructure development. This gap has created an urgent demand for diesel generator sets, particularly in key sectors:
  • Infrastructure and Logistics: Port expansion, mineral development, and road construction are at the core of Guinea's economic strategy. These projects require mobile and highly reliable power support. The upgrading of Conakry Port, as a national key project, is a typical example of this demand – generator sets play dual roles as primary and backup power sources during both the construction and operation phases.
  • Mining-Driven Growth: Guinea's bauxite industry is a global leader, and remote mining areas are highly dependent on diesel generator sets for power. This demand also has a spillover effect on port infrastructure; the expansion of mineral exports requires more stable power support for loading and unloading facilities.
  • Policy-Driven Opportunities: Guinea's 2024 National Energy Transition White Paper sets a target of 45% renewable energy by 2030, driving an investment boom in hybrid power systems. Diesel generator sets play a crucial role in balancing the intermittent power supply from renewable energy sources. The grid-connection compatibility of our units aligns perfectly with this transition strategy.
Our collaboration with CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering is a direct response to Guinea's market demand. Leveraging our manufacturing advantages, we have tailored equipment that combines performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness for the local specific operating conditions.

Fortifying China-Guinea Friendship Through Outstanding Cooperation

As a pioneer in China's overseas infrastructure development, CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering has accumulated extensive experience in Guinea. Its previous participation in the construction of the Boké Bauxite Port Project increased local annual exports by 6 million tons and created thousands of jobs. Our cooperation with CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering builds on this foundation, upholding the international cooperation spirit of "joint consultation, joint construction, and shared benefits":
  • Belt and Road Synergy: The expansion of Conakry Port is more than just a logistics project; it is a symbol of China's support for Guinea's development aspirations. By providing power support for this landmark project, our cooperation strengthens the "steel bridge" of China-Guinea friendship and contributes to the connectivity and prosperity of West Africa.

Conclusion

This cooperation with CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering fully demonstrates our company's ability to provide customized power solutions for complex international infrastructure projects. As Conakry Port gradually evolves into a world-class logistics hub, our diesel generator sets will continue to provide a reliable energy foundation for its operations – a testament to the quality of Chinese manufacturing and the enduring value of China-Africa cooperation.
We look forward to continuing to support various projects under the "Belt and Road Initiative" in Guinea and beyond in the future, empowering development with power and enhancing mutual trust through cooperation, to jointly promote a new pattern of mutually beneficial development.
