Project Introduction
Mangapwani New Port (Zanzibar New Port) in Tanzania is a key landmark infrastructure project under the Belt and Road Initiative jointly built by China and Tanzania. Located in the Mangapwani area on the west side of Zanzibar Island, the project has a construction period of 36 months. It is planned to build new multi-purpose terminals, land-based container and general cargo yards, building facilities and a complete set of outdoor supporting infrastructure systems. Upon completion, it will greatly enhance the port throughput capacity of Zanzibar and improve the logistics hub network along the East African coast. Shandong Comler Power Group undertakes the equipment procurement and supply work of the project, providing core engineering power and construction equipment such as 800kW diesel generator sets and excavators for the construction site. It delivers reliable uninterrupted power support for port civil engineering construction, yard development and terminal electromechanical equipment operation. Project Significance
As a core carrier for Zanzibar to implement its blue economic development strategy, the Zanzibar New Port project will create a large number of local employment opportunities, drive the coordinated development of port trade, marine tourism, warehousing and logistics and other industries, reduce regional import and export logistics costs, strengthen Zanzibar’s geographical value in the Indian Ocean trade corridor, and deepen practical infrastructure and economic and trade cooperation between China and Tanzania. It marks another important practical achievement of China-Africa cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. The successful supply of 800kW generator sets and construction machinery in this project effectively makes up for the power supply shortcomings of overseas island port construction, guarantees the self-sustaining power capacity of the construction site, and solves the problem of limited power supply conditions on islands. It accumulates valuable practical experience for equipment matching, emergency power supply and overseas equipment application of large-scale overseas port projects, and further demonstrates the hard strength and global service capability of Chinese power equipment enterprises.
