Use High-Energy Batteries: When high-energy batteries are selected for the generator, particular attention must be paid to heating or insulating the battery. If the ambient temperature in the equipment room may drop below 0°C (32°F), a battery heater must be installed to maintain battery capacity and output power.
Operation in High-Humidity Environments: For generator sets operating in areas with high humidity, heaters should be installed on the generator windings and in the control box. This prevents internal condensation within the windings and control box, which could cause short circuits or damage insulation.
Operation in Extremely Cold Climates:
Auxiliary Starting Devices: Diesel generators require auxiliary starting devices. Utilize fuel heaters or electric heaters to warm the coolant, fuel, and lubricating oil in a cold engine. This raises the overall engine temperature for reliable starting.
Coolant Heaters: When the equipment room temperature is not lower than 4°C (39°F), install a coolant heater to keep the engine block temperature above 32°C (90°F).
Use Low-Temperature Lubricating Oil: Employ low-temperature lubricating oil to reduce oil viscosity. This improves oil fluidity and minimizes internal fluid friction losses.
Operation at High Altitudes: When the engine (especially naturally aspirated engines) supplied with the generator set operates in high-altitude plateau regions, power is lost because less fuel can be burned efficiently due to the thinner air compared to operation at sea level. For naturally aspirated engines, power loss is typically approximately 3% for every 300 meters (about 1000 feet) increase in altitude. Therefore, the generator should be operated at a reduced power rating in high-altitude areas to prevent excessive smoke and fuel consumption.
