Many customers hold a misconception: they believe that once a diesel generator set passes its pre-use inspection, it can be operated with confidence, requiring minimal or infrequent checks during operation. Comler Power considers this understanding highly erroneous. Runtime inspections of diesel generators are absolutely essential. Today, we outline ten key inspection items to be performed during generator operation, which we strongly advise adhering to.
Monitor Instruments Regularly: Check all indicator instruments on the diesel generator at specified intervals. Pay close attention to lubricating oil pressure and coolant temperature. Lubricating oil pressure must not fall below 150 kPa; coolant temperature must not exceed 95°C.
Check Fluid Levels: Inspect the crankcase oil level, fuel tank level, and radiator coolant level. Replenish any fluid found below its normal operating level.
Observe Control Panel: Frequently observe the instruments and alarm indicator lights on the generator control panel. A red light indicates a fault; a green light signifies normal operation. Verify that the battery charger is functioning correctly.
Listen & Feel for Abnormalities:
Listen for unusual sounds from any part of the unit.
Feel the temperature by hand on the engine housing, bearing housings, oil lines, and water lines to ensure they are within normal ranges.
Be alert for any abnormal odors, such as burning (from the generator or electrical equipment).
Address Issues Promptly: If any adverse conditions are detected, address them immediately. For serious issues, shut down the unit for corrective action. After any fault-related shutdown, the cause must be fully resolved before restarting. Restart is initiated by pressing the reset button on the generator set.
